“We’re now in a stage of the pandemic where you can’t just make everything free. When someone tells you they want to make something free, someone’s always going to pay for it, and it’s going to be you.”
- PM Scott Morrison, via Sydney Morning Herald, 3rd Jan 2022.
I went into a Chemist Warehouse on Tuesday afternoon to collect a prescription for my wife who is an immunocompromised person. People who are immunocompromised have a weakened immune system and by extension a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases.
Given that this was Tuesday the 28th of December and that people in Australia are being forced to pay for Rapid Antigen Tests unlike other countries like the United Kingdom and that some portion of the population who want those RATs will have been infected before they entered the shop before leaving empty handed to go and ask in another shop, then it does not surprise me that those people have been spreading the virus like wildfire. It is almost as if the 'Rona has gone viral.
To be fair though, the Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) wasn't wrong when he said that "someone’s always going to pay for it, and it’s going to be you.” Well guess what? I have.
Rather, I got the 'Rona thanks to the outworking of Mr Morrison's idiotic policies.
This is the direct result of government policy. This government's evil abysmal failure on COVID-19 testing is helping to spread the virus. Sensible policy would have involved the implementation of adequate testing resources before society needed to return to normal but that was never going to be the case.
My experience (anecdote isn't evidence) was that the first PCR testing place that I went to was closed permanently, the second had closed to any more people before 9am and the third place where I eventually got tested at had a queue so long didn't even see me until after 1pm. I can tell you, as someone who was already feeling poorly, being forced to wait in a queue with COVID-19 for more than 3 hours is not fun.
This might sound strange but when it comes to law enforcement, nobody ever gets a bill for random breath tests and random drug tests. The secondary effect of those things is to prevent death by road accident. However, when it comes to trying to prevent death by taking measures to stop the collapse of the healthcare system due to COVID-19, the Morrison Government can not understand why this might be desirable.
What's even more strange is that it wasn't months of being on public transport that I had to to worry about but being forced to wait patiently in a Chemist Warehouse with no windows and apparently an under performing ventilation system. One can only assume that these incubators of plague are profiteering and stand to gain from having more of the population infected. This is like the cobra effect.
"When someone tells you they want to make something free, someone’s always going to pay for it, and it’s going to be you.”
Someone is going to pay for it; it certainly isn't going to be Mr Morrison's government.
The words of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott seemed to sum this up better than I could:
“In this climate of fear it was hard for governments to ask ‘how much is a life worth?’ because every life is precious, and every death is sad, but that has never stopped families sometimes electing to make elderly relatives as comfortable as possible while nature takes its course.”

Now we know. Your life is worth less than $25 to this government. As a citizen of the Commonwealth, they like you paying tax but they resent having to provide any kind of service to you at all. They'd rather sell it off than actually run the country.
"By making that policy very, very clear, then that means the private market, whether it's in the big warehouse pharmacies or the other pharmacies or the supermarkets, they can now go and stock their shelves with confidence that they won't be undercut by the government."
- ABC News, 3rd Jan 2022
That's who this government works for.
I will go on to say that every day that this pandemic continues, it becomes all the more clearer that the Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) is acutely aware of the mess that would be created and has engineered it so that he can look like the saviour. No RATs were ordered, both the Morrison and Perrotet Governments taunted the public with the mantra of 'personal responsibility' (while evading their own statutory responsibilities), gave heads up to his mates for future profiteering opportunities and then to top it all off, he went and doctored the definition of 'close contact'.
Need I remind you that the Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) set up a COVID Coordination Commission in March of 2020 which I presume was supposed to plan Coordination of COVID policy. It didn't do that. Instead he installed a gas lobbyist in the position of Chairman and all the and all the commission did was recommended more govt subsidies for gas.
The prime minister’s department refused to publicly release 1,100 documents linked to the Covid-19 commission’s discussion of gas projects and 690 documents about potential conflicts of interest, while also redacting its meeting minutes on economic and national security grounds.

Mr Morrison's words of course are exactly what his government thinks of the people of the Commonwealth. I have never witnessed such open contempt of ordinary people from the governments of this country than what this pandemic has brought in to all too sharp focus. He's abandoned us all.
